Why count it
A trip adds a little. A lot of trips add up.
Cosmic radiation is ionizing radiation, a known cause of cancer (IARC Group 1). One flight adds very little, but a frequent flyer's year can pass the 1 mSv reference level for the public: 20 New York–London round trips a year come to about 1.2 mSv.
LogAloft shows each flight's dose in chest X-rays and keeps your year's total, so you know where you stand.
Public reference level: ICRP 103. 20 New York–London round trips a year: LogAloft's CARI-7A estimate. One chest X-ray is taken as 0.1 mSv, a routine two-view exam (Mettler et al., Radiology 2008). Doses are estimates for your information, about ±20%.

How do my trips get in?
Forward a booking email, snap a boarding pass, paste your airline's trip page, or import the export file from your flight-tracking app or your travel calendar.
Do I need to be crew?
No. In passenger mode you see your trips, gates, delays and dose, with no crew words or duty limits.
Should I worry about the radiation?
For most travelers, no: a single flight adds very little. It adds up for people who fly a lot, and an unborn child is more sensitive, which is why the pregnancy limit is 1 mSv. LogAloft shows where you stand, in plain terms.
What's free, and what does Traveler Pro add?

How accurate is the dose?
For a flight with a flown track, the galactic dose is as good as the model behind it, about ±20%, the same class of model airlines and regulators use. Future flights are marked Estimate: the route that flight usually flies, or the one a dispatcher would plan for that day's winds.
Who can see my trips?
Only you, and anyone you choose to share them with. We never sell them, show your flights to airlines or employers, or use them for advertising. See the privacy policy.
